Dance techniques come with different histories and traditions, some created by and for marginalized communities while others rooted in the values of the European upper classes. We will discuss dance norms and techniques that we have experienced in class that have marginalized us, both as students and teachers. We will experiment with tools to resist those norms and challenge white supremacist/classist/heteronormative/ableist dance teaching traditions.
